The Australian Amateur Football Council[*1] under-23 side will tour Ireland in October to play a total of 4 games in International Rules.

The Australian squad of 20 was selected from some of the best amateur players in the nation and Victoria, SA, WA and Tasmania are all represented (these are the states that are members of the amateur council).

The Australian team leaves for Ireland on Monday 29th of September and returns on Wednesday 15th of October.

The first match will be played in Cork against Bishopstown[*2] before moving on to Galway to play against National University[*3] .

Two games are scheduled for Dublin, one against a Dublin GAA[*4] representative team and another against the GAA Academy[*5] .

The following is the Australian national team selected:

  • South Australia - Shane Jordan, Toby Haseldine, Fraser Pinkney, Martin Wilson, Ryan Richter
  • Tasmania - Allan O’Sign, Daniel Ellis, Nicholas Buller, Nick McKenna, Jesse Wells
  • Victoria - Jack Watts, Ben Dowd, Brendan Iezzi, Andrew McGuinness, Peter McGettigan
  • Western Australia - Steven Wood, Simon Jones, Brad Wedgwood, Scott Horsburgh, Jarrad Heller
It is worth noting that while these under 23 players are currently amateurs playing in amateur competitions, at least a few of them have been mentioned as prospects for the 2008 AFL Draft, highlighting the talent that will be in the touring team.
