The Australian Football League today announced DraftStar as the Official High Performance Talent Partner of the AFL.  DraftStar is a nationally run football development program which will provide high performance coaching for young athletes aged 11 years and up.
“The Partnership arrangement will allow DraftStar to conduct AFL approved training camps, Combine testing and personal coaching around Australia,” said AFL General Manager of National and International Development David Matthews.  “The DraftStar program will complement work already occurring within our State Leagues, by helping to grow the game with more specialist coaching and opportunities for players of all ages,” said Mr Matthews.
Under the arrangement DraftStar will have access to intellectual property around the AFL Combine brand and its unique player rating system used at the AFL Draft Combine. DraftStar’s Director of Coaching Ben Dixon made the partnership announcement at Aegis Park in North Melbourne, where he was joined by AFL stars and DraftStar coaching staff Brett Deledio from Richmond, Cyril Rioli from Hawthorn, Scott Pendlebury from Collingwood and Joel Selwood from Geelong.
“The program will provide specialist camps which offer skills and fitness testing that simulates the AFL Draft Combine, and incorporate sessions on leadership, teamwork, motivation, public speaking, and nutrition,” said Mr. Dixon.
“Together with Brett Deledio, Cyril Rioli, Scott Pendlebury and Joel Selwood, our team of specialists include Richard Douglas from Adelaide, Travis Boak from Port Adelaide, Campbell Brown from Gold Coast, Stephen Hill from Fremantle, Adam Selwood from West Coast, Ryan O'Keefe from Sydney, Jobe Watson from Essendon and Mathew Kreuzer from Carlton.”
The DraftStar website will feature online skills coaching from AFL experts, as well as results from the camps so that participants can benchmark themselves against other camp attendees.
The dates of the specialist camps for 2011 are as follows:
·         Kilmore, 26, 27 & 28 Sept
·         Chirnside Park, 29 & 30 Sept
·         Geelong, 3, 4 & 5 Oct
·         CBD Melbourne, 6 & 7 Oct
·         Adelaide, 10 & 11 Oct
·         Perth, 13 & 14 Oct
There will be an opportunity for footballers to register in the DraftStar - AFL Combine to be held in Melbourne at MSAC on 6 October.  Players need to be over 18 and eligible for the AFL Draft. Results will be sent to all 18 AFL Clubs.
