Round Two of the NTFL competition in Darwin was completed on Sunday with two teams, the Wanderers and Nightcliff Tigers, the only undefeated teams in an even start to the season. At the other end of the scale the Tiwi Bombers and Darwin Buffaloes remain winless and will be desperate to turn things around in a hurry.

The Buffaloes faced a fired up St Mary’s unit, fresh from their first round defeat. The Buffaloes led for most of the day, but Saints were always just at arm’s length. It took a four goal to one final quarter (which would have been more but for Saints inaccuracy) to turn the tide in the final quarter.

Final Score: St Marys 17 17 119 d Buffaloes 16 9 105

Similarly, the Tiwi Bombers held Nightcliff at bay for most of the day, going into the final quarter holding a narrow nine point lead. However, the Tigers burst out of the blocks in the final stanza, piling on six goals to one to run away with a four goal victory.

Final Score: Nightcliff 17 18 120 d Tiwi Bombers 14 12 96

The Tah’s winning streak ended at one when they went down to a stronger Wanderers side which led at every change by increasing margins before an even final quarter saw victory by 46 points. The Wanderers have now played two solid games for two wins and are already setting up a tilt to go one better than last year with a flag definitely in their sights and capabilities.

Final Score: Wanderers 15 6 96 d Waratah 8 2 50

In the battle of the south, Southern Districts were too strong for the Palmerston Magpies. After a tight first half, the Crocs were able to gradually pull away from a determined Magpies unit and record a very handy 28 point victory to square their season ledger.

Final Score: Southern Districts 16 12 108 d Palmerston 11 14 80

Next weekend will see a double header at TIO Stadium with the Bombers taking on Wanderers followed by the Tahs and the Buffaloes. The Tigers will play host to the Magpies whilst on Sunday The Crocs will take on St Mary’s.
