This Saturday, 26th January is Australia Day, a day that becomes especially important to the many expatriates living away from their home country. Every year there are many parties held around the world to celebrate the day, which inevitably links in with Australian Rules football clubs who celebrate the day with a game or use the occasion as a fund raiser. Other celebrations hold games purely as part of the fun of the day and may provide non Australians at the festivities with their first live taste of the game.

We highlight some of these festivities and ask anyone out there having a party or game to feel free to post details by using the comment feature below.

New York Magpies, USA – The New York event is held annually and gets bigger each year, this year it will be on Friday, January 25th at 8 PM at Pressure (Union Square), 110 University Place between 12th and 13th. Last years event was sold out so they will be pre-selling tickets for $20 ($25 dollars at the door). Baron’s Beer, Bundaberg Rum, Meat Pies, Tooheys & J. Boags Aussie beers, Aussie music, Aussie videos, Jacobs Creek Aussie wine, and much more.

San Diego Lions, USA – The Lion’s are expecting wet weather for Australia day and will be meeting at The Australian Pub, 1014 Grand Ave from noon until late. Originally celebrations and a kick of the footy were scheduled for Mission Beach, but the expected rain has moved the celebrations indoors. Malaysian Warriors, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Warriors will be celebrating at an Australia Day Party on the 26th Jan (This Saturday) at Bayu Angkasa Condominium Bangsar-Bayu Bar and Grill, Jalan Medang Kapas. 3pm until late. Cost: 35RM 15RM for the kids for BBQ All Australia Beef and snags (Pork, Beef, Italian) from Fogals, salad and Damper. Drinks (Aust wine, soft drinks etc) and VB available. Ha Noi, Vietnam - On Saturday, a special event called Experience Australia Day, held at the Melia Hotel, will provide visitors with a showcase of Australian scientific achievements and the opportunity to obtain information about Australia, including study opportunities. Visitors will have fun experiencing Australian culture by participating in Australian Rules football and making some Aussie-style cakes – "lamingtons" and "pavlovas".

Shanghai, China - Around 300 people are expected for the official day bbq out at the green sanctuary of the Le Meridian Sheshan …Activities will include the use of the venue's indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, showers and sauna, beach cricket by the lake, badminton, and a kids' corner, including crafts, face painting and a balloon artist. "Australians love sport, so we have included some beach cricket, Aussie rules football and we will also join together to sing the national anthems of both Australia and our host country China."

Berlin Crocodiles, Berlin, Germany - 37 Australians and 3 Kiwis students are coming to visit Berlin. The Crocs will hold a friendly match with/against them on Australia day between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. in the Schillerpark (U6, Seestraße).
