I hear Denmark were only 5 points down at one stage of the last quarter - looks like very even matches all round at the end.

Yeah. It was a very tough and tight contest. DK started best, but Ireland came back. DK went into the wind in the last quarter, but actually was the best team then and it proved as with just under two minutes to go, tournament leading goalkicker, Ottesen kicked for DK to make it a a 5 point game.
Shortly after a few mistakes in the DK backline was costly and Ireland got the next goal and with so little time left, it seemed very unlikely that DK could score 2 goals in under two minutes and then Ireland sealed the deal with a late goal, to make it a 3 goal victory.

But yes, a lot thought DK could have come back at the 2minute to go-mark and only 5 points down.

Mind you, Ireland 9.2 to 3.2 after quarter time suggests that Denmark jumped them early but the Warriors were steady after that.

You would think so from the q-by-q scores but if anything it was the Irish who did the jumping - they kicked the first two goals. Denmark then got 5 on the trot in the first quarter and the first goal very early in the second - Denmark led by as much as 25 points at one stage I think (6.1 to 2.0). Then Ireland dominated until three quarter time.
Between that sixth goal and three quarter time (almost half the match), the only goal Denmark kicked was due to a 50-metre penalty that put the kicker at point-blank range.

Denmark played with a good wind in th efirst quarter but Ireland took th elead with two goals... the danes then hit back and scored 6 without reply before the Irish boys got on top and took control of the game... the Danes only scored two more goals and one of them was awarded after a 50m penalty!!!

Its a great feeling being the champions of Europe!

No doubt Ireland was the deserved winner, I dont think anyone will contest that!

But DK did push them hard in the last quarter where Ireland had the wind. Despite this DK kept them scoreless untill 2 minutes to go. At that point DK had kicked 1.1 in the fourth. The goal which was kicked at point blank was after a 25m penalty...no 50s were paid in the tournament! So even if it had been kicked for 30m out, it was still likely it could have been a goal without the 25m penalty.

But the Irish dominance in the 3rd quarter was the difference between the teams (where the Irish played against the wind).

Sounds like a fitting match for the final.

So what can we conclude from this? Was Ireland about as strong as they were at IC2008? If so, was this one of Denmark's best performances? Are they on the rise? Are the young Farum players now maturing into good strong players and that's what we are seeing, or was Ireland a bit under strength?
