Irish to launch Second Division

The AFL Germany (AFLG) will do a similar thing this year by introducing two divisions. Similar reasons too - the standard is such that new clubs would find it difficult to compete with the more seasoned ones. The Stuttgart Emus will debut this year so it seemed like a good time to try to two divisions thing.

The two clubs with the most players, Rheinland and Munich, will field a team in each division. The other clubs will field one team each. So the structure will be:
Div 1: Munich, Rheinland, Hamburg, Frankfurt
Div 2: Munich, Rheinland, Berlin, Stuttgart

Yeah we noticed that was being set up on The Footy Record, I think it's on Aaron's list of things to do, after we update people on some of the AFL Europe negotiations. Good to see plenty happening in Europe.

Yep, a story on the AFLG 2009 schedule is on my list, as is a preview of the Stuttgart Emus.

There are also a few other new clubs around Europe we'll hopefully read about here in coming weeks.

The divisional setup sounds like a good idea - it seems most leagues quickly get to a point where it's too hard for new clubs to enter (eg Strasbourg a few years back) and growth plateaus.
