given the performances of Gwilt, O'Brien, Carlisle, Kennelly, and last nights effort by David Rodan, not to mention what's his name?? oh yeah - a young bloke in the west, (Nic Nautinui) I continue to be flabergasted by those who think that a World 25 team would NOT be competitive and why this concept should NOT happen straight away. What say IF at least 4 or 5 of these guys actually end up being chosen as All Australians this year as has been individually suggested in relation to them??? "not competitive" as a World Team?? You have GOT to be joking guys!!! Lets Have It on!!! In any case, maybe the new department WILL see it as an option!!

Off the top of my head all the players you just named, except for Kennelly, are Australians.

So I assume what you want to see is Australia versus 1st and 2nd generation Australians? It would be a tough sell calling it a World Team.

Correct, under State of Origin/IC rules all are Australians except Tadhg Kennelly.

Alipate Carlile and David Rodan were born in Fiji, but moved to Australia at an early age. Naitanui was born in Sydney to Fijian parents. James Gwilt has a PNG mother and Australian father, but grew up in Australia. Harry O'Brien was born in Brazil, but was adopted and grew up here.

The fact remains that all of them (except Tadhg) have lived the majority of their lives here and are products of the Australian junior football system.

You could put together an excellent line-up of foreign-born players to take on an all-Australian side if you wanted, but the fact that essentially they're all products of the Australia's footy clubs and leagues would make it a very hard sell in the media.

Until you have players of that calibre who have been drafted from overseas, I don't think you'll see a World 25 take on Australia. And that could be 10-15 years away optimistically.

Right now, you'd have Bayanda Sobetwa, Shae Macnamara, Mike Pyke and 7-8 Irishmen, most of whom aren't playing senior footy yet. With all due respect to them, I can't see that lineup getting within 300 points of the All-Australian team!
