Why on earth would anyone take the national game to a hostile and ignorant backwater like NZ when there are so many more worthy local demographics lining up for the gig.

What an ironic travesty to have the Indigenous code represented in Wellington as an example, while our own nations capital is again expediently overlooked. I also can't see Tassie agreeing to sharing this gig with NZ either.

This is the only country on the planet that would compromise and appropriate this cultural institution of ours, as they take exception to it's branding as 'Australian.'

Mr Kennett is fisrt and foremost a banker who will do anything to benefit his Hawks financial future. He almost sold all of Melbourne and Vics heart and soul to this end, so perhaps the Hawthorn faithful should be just a little concerned about the future of their proud old Melbourne club.

Given how the negotiations went with the Tasmanian government recently I think Hawthorn/Kennett were looking for a backup option. Jeff has done a good job at turning around the club's financial position over a number of years. Part of this has been the funds generated from playing home games in Tassie. I beleive Hawthorn needed a backup option from a revenue point of view if the Tassie deal fell over and had dipped a toe in the water in NZ as a backup option.

If Hawthorn (or the Bulldogs) or anyone else wants to go play games in NZ that's fine by me and up to them to make a deal with the NZ government that will financially assist the club.

I beleive that GWS will be playing 3 home games in the ACT each year with and ACT stylised kit - so Canberra will not be left without AFL matches.

You may think that Kiwis despise anything Australian, but I work with a number of Kiwis in Melbourne and they have all been quick to pick an AFL club (or followed one since they were kids) and regularly go to games. I don't expect everyone to be into it, but people will vote with their feet and if it is a success it will be repeated and if not then that may be the end of it.

Hawthorn also have kiwi born Brent Renouf, Shane Savage and recently retired Trent Croad connections as well as the three current scholarship players from NZ. So they have made a decision to look to NZ that suits them, not the AFL, not Canberra and not you Rory.
