Great result. Guess we won't know now, but a win may have meant that some might not think the Qld champs are the right place for the PNG national u16 team anymore and looked to push them towards the national champs? At any rate it would be a nice dilemma to have. Be interesting to see how many get picked for the Qld team.

Obviously some great talent, but at a slight advantage to the Qld teams in that they live and play together all year at school as far as I can tell. Hopefuly they continue to get stronger year on year, but it is also possible that this year's crop may have been just something special?

How ironic. Your point is quite true, the PNG boys mostly play together as part of the Academy at De La Salle in Port Moresby, so they do have an advantage - one that is normally the reverse for international sides. E.g. European Legion squad pulled together versus the AIS squad.

But there has been steady improvement from PNG so I don't think any reason to expect this is an unusual one-off good result. I'd think they would have to dominate the QLD champs (winning it and winning well) for 2 or 3 years before moving them up to effectively be a full state in the Australian champs. Hopefully in 5 or so years? The main thing is they have the pathway with Sout Pacific in the Australian champs - hopefully a win is around the corner.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Scott Johnson, Ori Nilmo (PNG Northern Academy), Michael Macca ( PNG Highlands Academy) named in the initial Qld U16 state squad.
