The Red and Green of the original Fremantle (Dockers) jumper was to signify port and starboard lights . The white was purely incidental to allow purple be the main colour. Fremantle is more known for it's Slavic community involvement. West Perth was known as the "garlic munchers". A newspaper article did mention Central Districts in the SANFL who are the highly successful red/white/blue Bulldogs. It wasn't a big step for West Perth as they are red&blue..

The AFL has all these theme rounds so they will be asking whether an International round will be a winner for them. I can see the Carlton Azure Blues being a hit.

Carlton would probably be up for it - Troy and I met with someone from the Blues a few years back (prominent Italian-Australian sports writer Tony Di Bolfo) about how they could increase their international profile. Plus there are the obvious connections with the Italian team of the century etc.

So go the Azzuri!
