A good series of articles and exactly what I had in mind w.r.t.football tourism/volunteeering. I'm sure if the pathway was more pronounced then more people would combine tourism with football especially in the Pacific. ATM it is up to the individual to seek out possible arrangements.

Hi Harley,

I've been wanting to be able to encourage this for some time - however, I needed to establish (even if just for myself) some credibility on the topic - (i.e. to have done it myself).

A key issue I do feel - and I haven't touched on it yet in the series but will - is the heavily Christian nature of most of the Pacific Island communities. So - even for the footy tourist - of club on an end of season trip - the examples to be set need to be positive, boozing up and un-Christian behaviour has to be shielded.

Being in the rooms in 2011 at Blacktown and seeing their postgame prayers and hymns was spine tingling (and I'm not religious). In Vanuatu again - prayers feature strongly. So - having experienced this myself - I realise that for footy tourism in the Pacific to be encouraged - it has to be for the right reasons. But - also balance against a few other factors which if I finish off the series right might put up for discussion.
