The 2012 USAFL Nationals were held in Mason, Ohio, and continuing their consecutive run of Nationals titles, the Denver Lady Bulldogs whitewashed the joint Boston Lady Demons/ Baltimore Eagles team 3.4(22) to 0.0.(0)
The Lady Bulldogs turned up with an impressive squad line up, including players returning from Australian leagues and five Freedom players, three of whom travelled to Australia for the 2011 International Cup.
The Lady Demons/ Eagles team also had some impressive names, including International Cup Best and Fairest Eileeen Geogheegan and Freedom Captain Judith Stein, however they were unable to beat the Lady Bulldogs’ unbeaten run on the day.
This year there were 13 women’s teams competing at the Nationals, a remarkable step up from the three teams at the Nationals in Milwaukee in 2005. The teams were combined to allow the step up to 16-a-side from 9-a-side, and the games were played on nearly full size pitches.
