New York crowned 2004 NEAFL Champions

North America The North East Australian Football League in the US has come to a close, with the finals played in Philadelphia. The New York Magpies closed the season well, ensuring that their top of the table finish was translated into a Grand Final win.

The 2004 NEAFL minor round saw New York finish undefeated, followed by traditional powerhouse Boston, then Philadelphia and Baltimore Washington. The playoffs tournament was held in Philadelphia on August 21st, with first up against fourth, and second playing third. With the Magpies and Demons winning, the scene was set for the Grand Final, played the same day. In a tight contest, New York defeated Boston 3.3 (21) to 2.4 (16). In the battle to avoid the wooden spoon, the hosts had a strong win over the Eagles. All clubs are now preparing for the US Nationals, in Atlanta in October.
