The Hamburg Dockers last weekend broke through for their first ever win, travelling to Düsseldorf to give the Lions a 18.7.155 to 3.5.23 thumping in round one of the AFL Germany 2005 season.

The Hamburg aussie rules club was founded by German high school exchange students returning from Australia and since joining the AFLG in 2003, the Dockers have fielded quite young sides, struggling against the more experienced squads from the other German clubs. The Hamburgers' previous nearest win had been a 19-point loss to Frankfurt on May 10th, 2003. However they have had one or two notables pull on the boots, including ex-Carlton player Warren 'Wow' Jones.

Season 2005 has seen an upturn in their fortunes, including receiving a set of jumpers from the Fremantle Football Club back in the AFL and recruiting well in the off-season.

In the other match played in Round 1 of the AFLG 2005, Berlin defeated Munich 68-35 at Schiller Park, Berlin.
