The recent KICK fundraiser held in Papua New Guinea, featuring Australian sporting celebrities Merv Hughes, Rodney Hogg and Doug Hawkins, was a huge success.
The event added around 40,000 Kina to the AFL PNG, which will be a big boost to get their players to Melbourne in August for the International Cup. That's around AU$16,000. Their estimate is that they'll spend around 120,000 Kina (about AU$50,000) to attend. Most countries travelling from further afield spent around AU$100,000 in 2002.
The three Aussie sporting stars thoroughly entertained the customers with stories from their great careers. A full run down can be found on the PNG website, titled "Merv & the Boys KICK a winner!"
