Carlton's Irish recruit Setanta O'hAilpin has continued his good form in the Victorian Football League, leading his side to another win with a five goal haul against Williamstown.
After his debut for Carlton in their bad loss to Richmond a few weeks ago, "Carlos" was returned to the Blues' feeder club the Northern Bullants, who are having a very good year. Setanta only had limited game time for Carlton, but did score a goal with his first kick at AFL level. Coach Denis Pagan has repeatedly stated that the Irishman is a long term prospect, so it was no surprise he was sent back to the VFL to learn his trade.
His first match back was round 7 against the Scorpions. The Bullants had a good win, but O'hAilpin did not feature heavily, although he did kick one goal. In round 8 last weekend he came back strongly, booting 5 of his side's 11 goals in their tight 17 point win over Collingwood's feeder side Williamstown. O'hAilpin was named fifth best for his side. He now sits equal third on the VFL goalkicking ladder - a great effort given it's only his second year of football and he has spent some time in the ruck.
Whether he will return to Carlton's line-up this year probably depends more on Pagan's thinking on what is best for his development, than Setanta's form over the rest of the year.
