The 2005 Australian Football International Cup is getting close, and there are increasing numbers of small pieces in the Australian media regarding the tournament. Amongst the stories locals may have seen was a short article in the AFL Record.
While there is no doubt the event will only play a small part in the Australian football season, where the professional AFL dominates the scene, it is pleasing to see more and more people are becoming aware of the Cup. The Round 10 AFL Record, which no doubt sold tens of thousands of copies over the weekend May 27 - 29, included a section called "Last Week, This Week" by John Murray, and under the heading "International Cup" explained that the tournament runs from August 3rd to 13th, the final will be the curtain-raiser to the Round 20 Collingwood versus Carlton match, and listed the teams in each pool, mentioning Ireland as defending champion.
We look forward to more coverage across all mainstream media in the remaining two months.
