The Brit Cup is a mid-season carnival in the BARFL season where the clubs submit teams made up solely of "EU" (mainly born and bred British) players. This year's Cup on Saturday 18th June, was the 5th year of the concept and saw the best footy played so far.
The British Bulldogs selectors were probably the keenest spectators, and this knowledge no doubt contributed to the fierceness of the contests.
Further emphasising the Britishness of the event, the Cup was played in the Midlands. 8 teams, each comprising 12 on field and 4 interchange, travelled to Robin Hood territory as the home ground of the local Nottingham Scorpions was the venue and Wandsworth Demons, West London Wildcats, North London Lions, Putney Magpies, Sussex Swans, Bristol Dockers and Reading Kangaroos all did the travelling.
According to the BARFL website: "the day saw some hard fought and close encounters in hot conditions, with the dominant four teams being Wandsworth, West London, Putney and Reading.
Wandsworth defeated Putney in their semi-final in a tight match 2.3.15 to Putney 1.1.7; whilst, West London easily defeated Reading 3.3.21 to 0.2.2
The Grand Final was a terrific encounter, between two sides with very good depth of European players. West London started well and lead at half time by 2 points, but Wandsworth finished over the top of the Wildcats, kicking 2 goals to 1 behind in the second half to run out winners 2.0.12 to 0.3."
A longer report on Wandsworth's home page reflects the pride in winning a very hard fought tournament.
