BARFL semi finals see Hawkers snatch it in the last quarter!

Saturday August 20th saw the first of the Semi-Finals in the British Aussie Rules Football League (BARFL) on Clapham Common in London, UK, the Regents Park Lions defeating the Hammersmith Magpies in the Conference match and Wimbledon edging out North London in the Premiership division.
In the first match in the London Conference semi, the Hammersmith Magpies took on the Regents Park Lions. In only their second season, the Pies have made an impression and reached the finals again. The Pies got of to a flyer by kicking 3.4 to the Lions 4 points in the 1st quarter. But the Lions roared back in the 2nd quarter with 3 goals against the Pies 2. In fact the Lions kicked 3 goals in all 3 quarters keeping up the pressure on the Pies, who only kicked 2 goals in the 2nd half of the game. Lions win by 9.15 (69) to 7.9 (51).In the 1st Contact Premiership, the Wimbledon Hawks took on the North London Lions. The Hawks were down at every point in the game until the last quarter. Again, like their Conference team, the Lions kicked 3 goals in the first 3 quarters with the Hawks only kicking 1, 2 then 2 again in the 3rd. But the Hawks held the Lions in the last quarter and put the pressure on the Lions, kicking 4 goals. It was only mid-way through the last that the Hawks started to up the pace and with the Lions tiring the Hawks could smell victory. Hawks came out on top 9.15 (69) to 9.6 (60).
