US power club the Denver Bulldogs have won their fourth-straight national title at the US Nationals held in Milwaukee on the weekend. Denver defeated Milwaukee in the Division One Final 4.8.32 to 1.1.7, although San Diego notably also performed very strongly in the group.
In Division 2, the Golden Gate Roos defeated Philadelphia 7.3.45 to 1.4.10 - Orange County narrowly missing the Division 2 final after originally being seeded in division 1.
Division 3 saw a strong Vancouver side miss out on the final after a border-crossing delay stopped them arriving for their first match - Minnesota eventually defeating Baton Rouge 4.3.27 to 3.3.21 for the title. After the controversy surrounding San Diego's original placement in division 2, then elevation to division 1, much weight was on the Lions to see if they lived up to the talk - and it appears they were probably the second strongest side in the tournament, losing only one match, to Denver, by less than a goal.
In the other pool of Division 1, hosts Milwaukee won all three pool matches, but were well beaten by the Bulldogs, who are fast creating an impressive dynasty in US Footy. Denver have now won 4 in a row for a total of 5 national championships.
Division 2 saw Orange County and Philadelphia both with two wins and a loss from pool matches in Pool A, but the Hawks' better percentage saw them through. In Pool B Golden Gate went undefeated, then were convincing winners over Philadelphia in the final.
In Division 3, the Vancouver Cougars became the first Canadian side to ever compete at the US Nationals and impressed, their first game being an 87-point drubbing of the Golden Gate B/Mojave Greens combined team. They then won their second match, but due to ahving forfeited their first game after problems crossing the US-Canada border the Minnesota Freeze went through to the final.
In the other pool, the Baton Rouge Tigers went undefeated, but were ultimately left a kick short of the Freeze.
