The British Bulldogs and the Fianna na hEireann (Irish Warriors) will again do battle as a curtain-raiser to the AFL exhibition match between Geelong and Port Adelaide. The AFL match will be played Saturday, October 21st at The Oval and is a big event on the social calendar for the large Australian community in London.
Kicking off at 11.40am, the match between Great Britain and Ireland will be 18-a-side with full International Cup selection rules - the British team for the first time ever likely include players from both Scotland and England.
As part of the selection process for the British team, a BARFL city (London local players) vs country (Regional and Scottish local players) match was held on October 7th, with the city team getting up by 11 points - City 10.12 (72) defeated Country 9.7 (61).
After a tough rebuilding year in the Irish Aussie Rules scene, former national team coach Darren Fitzpatrick has returned to the top job. Fitzpatrick coached the Irish side to 12 wins from 12 matches in internationals, with the Green Machine hoping he can take the side back to their International Cup-winning best form.
The match will also feature a juniors game at half-time, organised by Aussie Rules UK.
