Its official! The Ottawa Swans Australian Football Club will compete in the Ontario Australian Football League in 2008 becoming the 10th team in the largest Australian Football League outside of Australia. Finally football is coming back to Ottawa!
It has been only one year since the Swans went from 5 or 6 guys throwing some ideas around at The Royal Oak, to a fully sustainable team knocking on the OAFL's door.
Friday night had a couple of the club's committee members head to Toronto to meet with the OAFL and officially confirm the clubs acceptance into the league for 2008. The Swans are extremely excited about their debut season and buoyed by the acceptance and enthusiasm the OAFL Committtee has shown in bringing footy to Ottawa.
2008 will see the club compete in a schedule yet to be released, of approximately 12-14 games, with over half of those to be played here in Ottawa. The club will now concentrate on building the playing squad in preparation for the start of pre-season training starting in January. The Swans are also looking to recruit Kids under the age of 16 to help out on game days and participate in a couple of junior training camps in 2008. If you would like any more information about the club or the upcoming 2008 season please contact us by email at info at ottawaswans.
