WorldFootyNews.com and USFootyNews.com are teaming up to present the 2008 USFooty Top 10 Poll. To kick things off we are having a Top 10 Countdown for the Preseason Top 10. Who are the best teams in USFooty?
The Baltimore Washington Eagles are Ranked Number 3 in the WFN/USFN Top 10 Poll. The Eagles had a break out season in 2007. In 2006 the Eagles won the Division II National Championship, so the expectations were high for 2007 but even the most optimistic predictions weren’t for as well as their 2007 went. They finished 7-1 with their only loss to the eventual champions the Denver Bulldogs. The Eagles were ranked number 3 in the final World Footy News Poll. Their number 3 finish was spoofed in a YouTube viral video made for the Eagles' 2007 Awards Night.
The Eagles' 2007 started a little shakily with a close win over North Carolina. Things really picked up after a solid win against the undermanned Boston Demons. The 2007 season was solidified when the Eagles were able to beat the Magpies in New York. At Nationals the Eagles were able to take care of Boston and Orange County but they were easily outmatched by the Denver Bulldogs. The new president of the Eagles, Cord Chase, was very happy with the season. “It went really well. We stood as a team throughout the year and because of that I think that we were able to play a really good level of football against some extremely talented teams,” says Chase.
The big question is whether the Eagles will be able repeat their 2007 performance or even improve and go for the 2008 National title. According to Chase, “time will only tell, but the longer that we train and get out to games together, the more trust and confidence we are going to build and the better we're going to play as the season progresses.” The Eagles season begins in Florida at the Fort Lauderdale Spring Tourney. This will see the Eagles match up against their 2007 nemesis the Denver Bulldogs. As well as the Florida tourney, the Eagles have a home and away series against North Carolina and Philadelphia. Boston will be looking for redemption when they host the Eagles on June 7. One of the games of the year will be on July 12 when the Eagles host the New York Magpies.
