WorldFootyNews.com and USFootyNews.com are teaming up to present the 2008 USFooty Top 10 Poll. To kick things off we are having a Top 10 Countdown for the Preseason Top 10. Who are the best teams in USFooty?
The Denver Bulldogs are the Number 1 team in the preseason World Footy News / USFooty News Top 10 Poll. The Bulldogs completed a remarkable season in 2007 by taking the USFooty National Championship in Louisville KY.
Despite losing to the San Diego Lions at home during the season, the Old Dogs were able to get their revenge taking the Division 1 Championship by 6 points. They finished the season 9-1, third on the USFootyNews hybrid ladder with 20 points and a percentage of 485. But they won the National Championship and were the unanimous Number 1 in the final 2007 World Footy News Top 10 Poll, no surprise given their dominance of footy in the United States over many years.
It would seem hard to top 2007, but 2008 looks to be another huge year for the Old Dogs. Probably the biggest event of the year happens in nearby Colorado Springs CO on October 11-12 when Denver hosts the USFooty National Championship Tournament. The Cadet Athletic Fields at the US Airforce Academy will be able to host five games simultaneously in what has become the largest amateur football carnival in the world. Few (if any) hosts have ever won the National Championship so the Bulldogs have their work cut out for them. That said, at a mile high the thin air may give the Bulldogs a distinct advantage.
2007 Championship winning coach and former Revo, Tom Ellis will be coaching the Bulldogs again in 2008. First up, Denver faces two of the top teams in the country in Number 3 Baltimore Washington Eagles and Number 4 New York Magpies this weekend (just gone) in Fort Lauderdale Florida. In June, the Bulldogs head to Portland to take on the Seattle Grizzlies. But everything is leading up to October. According to Ellis, “Colorado Springs is my birthplace and I am really looking forward to coaching the Club at Nationals. My Brother was also born at the Air Force Academy so it has special meaning to us.”
Apart from the Bulldogs, Denver is pushing full-steam ahead with Coed Rec footy and the Lady Bulldogs are heading to Phoenix at the end of May to take part in the largest Womens Tourney before Nationals. The Ellis family is also looking to the next generation, with the development of junior footy in Colorado and the possibility of a junior tournament at Nationals. Denver also has reps at the highest levels of USFooty. In particular, Rich Mann is the new USFooty President and Matt Dainuiski is an assistant coach for the Revos.
