The 2008 MAAFL Premiership race, as is normally the case, came down to the last game and Chicago United have successfully defended their 2007 title by again being crowned the premier club in the Mid American Australian Football League.
Interestingly the United team did not have to take the park on the last weekend of competition but just had to sit back and see if Nashville could snatch the cup from their grasp at the death knock. It wasn't to be for the Kangaroos though as they went down to Minnesota Freeze leaving Chicago on top of the ladder on percentage over the Milwaukee Bombers.

Chicago have made no bones about it, winning the MAAFL again was their primary focus in 2008 and along with the development of their local league the United club has recently become the envy of many of their MAAFL competitors. Chicago with their title success this year become the first club to win three MAAFL Premierships in the official nine year history of the league. Apart from their win last year, Chicago also won the title back in 2001.
This year has been an interesting one, as always. Chicago got off to a bad start, going down to Nashville and getting whipped by a more determined home town Kangaroo outfit. This may have been the kick in the butt Chicago needed, as from there they won every game well.
Nashville, after a slow start with an away loss to the Regional team Atlanta bounced back and looked like it might be their year. But their hopes faded when on the road to Milwaukee, where they went down and then, still with a slight chance to take the title, they went down again to Minnesota in the last round.
Milwaukee also started well, winning their first three games, but were beaten by Chicago at home. Their smaller winning margins, especially their 1 point win over Cincinnati, meant Chicago hung on to a slim lead to stay on top of the table.
