This Sunday Hong Kong will host the China Cup. It is the first time the tournament has been played outside Mainland China.

The tournament's origin can be traced to a match in 2003 when Hong Kong and Shanghai met in the latter's home city. The match almost failed to go ahead due to the outbreak of SARS. Nevertheless the Dragons did make the trip and walked away eighty point winners.

Since then, Hong Kong have competed against China in Shanghai three times and once in Beijing. Beijing and Shanghai have also challenged each other several times. This year five teams will compete for the cup; China Reds, Guangzhou, Macau, Hong Kong Dragons and Pok Fulam Vikings.

Sunday promises to be a big afternoon, and fans can expect a high standard of football. Insiders expect a Hong Kong vs China final. "Guangzhou and Macau will be underdogs as they are developing teams. Pok Fulam are a little out of their depth. The Dragons at home will be hard to beat, but expect the China Reds to give them a run for their money, having assembled a good side in the lead up to hosting the Asian Championships in Shanghai this October."
