North America With the beginning of the 2011 season fast approaching, the Portland Power Australian Football Club is pleased to announce that the team has been renamed the Portland Steelheads Australian Football Club.

The Steelheads name was chosen after an exhaustive search process. Club members submitted and voted on over 100 suggestions for the new identity before choosing the Steelheads name. The image of a steelhead swimming upstream and leaping across rapids is an iconic one in Oregon and throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The club was founded in 2003 as the Portland Power after club members were able to acquire jerseys from the Port Adelaide Power in the Australian Football League. “The Power name has served us well for the past 8 years.”, stated club President Martin Coventry. “Looking forward after several years of major growth for the club, it became clear that it was time to establish our own unique identity. We are proud to represent Portland in the USAFL, and the Steelheads name is one that is deeply connected to Oregon.”

As part of the announcement, the club is also unveiling its new logo. The logo was designed by Tyler Rodgers of 227 Design in Greensboro, North Carolina. “Tyler was great to work with throughout the process.” said club Vice President Nick Wirth. “He listened to our needs and worked with us to make a logo that really captured our team identity . We're proud to have this logo represent our club.” A portfolio of Rodgers's work can be found at his company's website: http://www.227design.com

In the coming weeks, the club will be unveiling its schedule for the 2011 season.
