In Vanuatu this Easter weekend, Erakor Village (home of the first AFL footy club in Vanuatu) travelled to Mele for a good Friday footy match. Taking on the newly formed Mele AFL Club in a demonstration game. Fans were advised to get to the Mele ground around 1pm so as to not miss any of the action.

Mele AFL Club Triumph over Erakor after last Quarter Controversy
The experienced bodies of Mele overcame the spirited but younger Erakor Goldenstar AFL club in the Easter showdown at Mele on Good Friday. However they nearly threw the game away when an interchange mix up saw 13 Mele men take the field in a 12-a-side game. A head count called by Erakor highlighted the error which would normally mean a forfeit of all scores however the Erakor coach, in a gesture of good sportsmanship, declined the opportunity to win on a technicality.
Mele 16.9. (105) defeated Erakor 11.3 (69)
Goal kickers for Mele: Roby 5, Jhon 5, George 4, Neil 2. Best: Rico
Goal Kickers for Erakor: Justin 4, Killip 3, Robin 2, Somsen 1, Norman 1.
Mele showed early on that they were prepared to run even though the skills looked a bit rusty. Erakor on the other hand played with skill and flair but just couldn’t get enough of the football to make an impact.
Late in the second term Mele put their foot down and blew the margin away before the big break. Rico running through the middle was the difference as he consistently broke through the Erakor lines providing plenty of quality ball into the forward line.
