AFL Fiji cash boost

Oceania

The Fijian press has reported that AFL Fiji is to receive a $A10,000 ($F18,458.93) grant towards the 2013 development program.

The Acting Australian High Commissioner, Glen Miles, promised the grant during a presentation of $800 cash to support the Fiji Tribe senior team in its preparation for the upcoming 'test series' against Nauru beginning November 13 at Albert Park in Suva.

AFL Fiji's Robert Wolfgramm was quoted in the Fiji Times "We have been focusing on Suva and Nausori all this while but with this grant, we will be able to go across Fiji and teach the sport to the juniors around the country.  It's a big boost to our development program and we hope this would help the sport grow in Fiji."

Glen Miles was quoted in the FijiSun "The $800 was raised at the recent AFL Grand Final event held at the Australian High Commission in September and we are looking forward to work with AFL Fiji to make this an annual event."

Miles stated that the Australian High Commission will help develop Australian Football in Fiji through its 'Australian Sports Outreach Program' and was able to confirm the Federal grant of $10,000 for AFL Fiji's schools junior development programme.

Following on from the 2011 signed memorandum of understanding between the Federal Government and the AFL whereby the Australian Government would assist the growth of Australian Football internationally.

From the High Commission website regarding the ASOP grants :

Applications are welcomed for individual projects of up to AU$10,000. Grants will also be considered for cooperatively funded projects (where a project also receives funding from other sources). If there are other sources of funding, they should be listed.
