With just one game in the CNFA French Australian Rules football competition this weekend, the finals teams have been decided. The Toulouse Hawks will again be there, along with both Paris teams, the Cockerels and the Cockatoos.
But the clash between the Cergy-Pontoise Coyotes and the Perpignan Tigers was the fight for fourth place. Sadly for the Perpignan Tigers they will not be in their maiden finals series after going down to the Coyotes.
The final score saw: Cergy-Pontoise Coyotes 16 13 109 d Perpignan Tigers 3 10 28
Whilst disappointed to miss the finals, the Tigers have enjoyed their best season yet and can finish on a high if they can win in Lyon in their Round 9 clash with the ALFA Lions. Should they hold fifth place at the end of the home and away season it would be a wonderful result for a team that has often been a team making up the numbers – not anymore.
The Coyotes have a tough assignment next round against the top placed Toulouse Hawks. It was vital to their finals hopes to defeat the Tigers, as the Hawks represent a huge challenge going into the finals.
Round 8 will continue next weekend with a huge match between the Paris Cockerels and the Toulouse Hawks. To some this match will be a rehearsal for the Grand Final with both teams impressive across the season – The Hawks undefeated and the Cockerels powerful after losing their opening two matches.
The Bordeaux Bombers will also host the ALFA Lions in a match that gives each team a chance to improve their standings for the season. The Bombers have been competitive in all matches this season and would want to finish their season on a positive note ready for next season. The Lions are out to avoid the wooden spoon and will throw everything at both Bordeaux and Perpignan in their final matches to do so.
