For two weeks in a row the Wolverhampton Wolverines were chalking up cricket scores in their AFLCNE matches. Then, last weekend, they came up against a brick wall called the Nottingham Scorpions. In a tough match, the Scorpions kept the pressure on the previously undefeated Wolverines and pulled away to notch an important victory for the club.
The result keeps the Scorpions well within reach of the Wolverines (second on ladder) and the Manchester Mozzies (first) in the early race for league supremacy.
In other matches, the Huddersfield Rams played in a tight, tough contest against the Sheffield Thunder. The game was close to three-quarter time, but the Rams were able to pull away in the final stanza to record a solid win by 29 points.
The Tyne Tees Tigers dined out on newcomers, the Merseyside Saints, recording a formidable 108 point win. Whilst it was a big result for the Tigers, the Saints could also draw some solace from the fact that their baptism of fire, whilst still seeing big scores, is trending with narrower losses each week. The club certainly knew they would be in for some tough days from the outset, but each week they gain more experience and greater understanding of the game and each other.
