The Manchester Mozzies will go head to head with the Nottingham Scorpions for the 2016 AFLCNE Grand Final after last weekend’s semi-finals were completed.

The Mozzies put down any revolt from the Huddersfield Rams with a commanding 85 point victory in an excellent tone up prior to the big game. Against good opposition, the Mozzies powered through the match challenging themselves to meet challenges and build strength.

The Nottingham Scorpions were also strong in downing the well performed Wolverhampton Wolverines in the other semi-final by 39 points. Both teams had enjoyed success throughout the year, but the Scorpions were too strong on the day.

For the Scorpions the opportunity now exists to add to their premiership trophy cabinet after winning the title in 20005 and 2011. Certainly, the Scorpions have their eyes on the biggest prize. Runners up again would not be in their equation.

For the Mozzies, however, it will be their chance at a three-peat success, taking the title in both 2014 and 2015. It would extend a remarkable spell whereby, if successful, the Mozzies would have five flags from six Grand Finals over seven years. They have been the dominant club in the AFLCNE for a long time now and have no immediate plans to relinquish that claim.

The match will be played at the Manchester Mozzies home ground, the Burnage Rugby Club. The Grand Final kicks off at 2pm, preceded by the Plate Final at midday.

The Plate final will be played between the Sheffield Thunder and the Tyne Tees Tigers. The Tigers dispatched the Merseyside Saints in their semi-final by 30 points to advance. For the Saints, whilst disappointed at not pulling off an upset victory to extend their season, they can be very proud of their efforts this season. Earlier in the season they went down to the Tigers by a huge 115 points, so to turn things around and narrow the gap to just 30 points in a match with much more riding on it shows just how far the Saints have travelled in their inaugural season.

Good luck to all teams on the weekend as they bring the 2016 AFLCNE season to a memorable close.
