The 2016 AFL Norway season is close to wrapping up with the Oslo East team leading the pack as premiership favourites. East last won the title in 2014, with the Ås Battlers taking the honours in 2015. It marks a big turnaround for East after missing the final altogether in 2015, with Oslo West reaching their first ever Kenguru Cup Grand Final.
Throughout the 2016 season, East have been the dominant side, both on the field with an impressive array of victories, and off the field with strong numbers which have been responsible for turning the club’s fortunes around.
Both the Ås Battlers and the Oslo West team have had days where numbers impacted on performances, though for most of the season West have been the team most likely to mount a challenge to East. The final round, however, saw the Battlers turn an otherwise disappointing season around, recording strong wins against both East and West to show promise for next year.
The Grand Final of the Kenguru Cup is scheduled for Saturday 10th September at Voldsløkka in Oslo with the all-Oslo final between East and West.
From there the national team from Norway will be selected to participate in the Euro Cup, held this year in Lisbon, Portugal.
