The Prague Dragons from the Czech Republic will host this weekend’s final round of the Central European Australian Football league competition featuring teams from Croatia, Austria and of course the Dragons as the Czech representative.
The initiative sees six Croatian teams lock horns with the Dragons and also the Styrian Downunderdogs from Austria. The Zaprude Giants, Zagreb Hawks, Ploce Eagles, Velika Gorika Bombers, Zagreb Cvjetno Dockers and Sesvete Blues are the Croatian teams involved.
After the second round of the competition played in Graz, Austria, the teams remaining as a real chance to take out the event are the Giants (30 points), Downunderdogs (20 points) and Blues (20 points). After that, the Bombers (14), Dockers (12), Hawks (10), Dragons (8) and Eagles (6) will be fighting for their best possible finish and keen to unleash as many headaches and upsets as possible on the day.
The event will be held at the Rugby Club, Petrovice, pitch in Prague. The teams are split into two groups for the round robin series. Group 1 sees the Dragons, Dockers, Downunderdogs and Hawks. Group 2 includes the Giants, Eagles, Bombers and Blues.
This event is a massive boost to Australian Rules football in Prague, with a great chance to promote the game and potentially recruit new converts and hopefully bring past teams back to sustainability for more localised competition.
