Day 6 of the Transatlantic Cup saw Round 3 of the Men's competition contested between the six competing nations under warm sunny skies at Humber College Toronto.   Up first were the Irish Warriors and the USA Revolution. The Revolution last defeated the Warriors in international competition at the 2005 International Cup in Melbourne. 

The Irish went into this match undefeated in the tournament so far and maintained a small lead through each of the three quarters. The match was a feature of high skills and good decision making. Both teams were well structured, and the game was open for scoring opportunities.  

At three quarter time the Irish lead by eleven points and looked like they could hold the lead to the end. But the US were able to finally capitalise on their centre clearance advantage to break through and kick three goals to one in the last quarter and win by two points.  Best for the US were Anderson, Livy and Lindfeldt.

The US will next play Canada in the first semi final on Friday while Ireland, who will have an injury cloud over a number of players, will play Great Britain.   The British sealed their spot today thrashing the Colombian Jaguares by 147 points.  They rested spearhead Alex Walkden, but plenty of others put up their hand when the goals were there to be kicked Lewey and Gallagher kicking four goals each, Evans and Andrew with three goals each the leaders among 12 individual goal kickers.

The Colombians could only manage two behinds and their cause was not helped when they had a player sent from the field on a yellow card for half of the last quarter.   Once again, the newcomers battled hard all day with little reward as their consistency in hitting targets let them down and allowed the Bulldog’s defenders to pick off almost all their ventures forward.  Best for Colombia were Rosales, Torres, Corales and Vidal. 

The other match today saw the French Coqs defeat the host nation Canada by 23 points.  After an even first quarter the French pulled away to a 16-point lead at three quarter time lead from the front by captain Nick Boche.

Canada did fight back with some quick clearances from the middle and finding veteran Kyle Graham who kicked consecutive goals.  But the comeback was short lived, and France went on to win by 23 points.  Best for France were Decaux and Bonhomme, while Aubert for France and Whyte for Canada kicked three goals each for the match.

Despite the win France have finished third in their group by percentage so will miss the semi-final on Friday, while Canada who have not won a game in their group will go through to the semi fina against the USA as they have a better percentage than Colombia.

Tomorrow’s Day 7 matches will see the big semi finals between the USA Freedom and Canada Northern lights, while the GB Swans will play the Irish Banshees.  The other match will be between the teams at the bottom or each group, in France and Colombia.
