2014 AFL U/16s South Pacific Cup in Coffs Harbour

The 2014 U/15 South Pacific Cup has been running across the weekend in sunny Coffs Harbour. With the Coca Cola PNG Binatangs entering as the reigning champs taking on the New Zealand Hawks and the combined Oceania squad (drawn from Nauru, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomons).

Summary : The Coca Cola AFL PNG Binatangs started with a Bang against the NZ Hawks. The leg speed of the Binatangs was too much on day 1 for the NZ Hawks. The New Zealand team fought very hard and worked their way into the game during parts of the match and continued to improve until the final siren never giving in!

Summary : The AFL Oceania side ran into a strong Coca Cola AFL PNG Binatangs side coming off a strong win against NZ. The Oceania side were strong and no easy beats! PNG proved to be too strong in this contest but were certainly pushed by the Oceania side who were unlucky not to kick a few goals. This was a great start to the championships for the Oceania side who will improve as the tournament continues.

Summary : The AFL Oceania side came up trumps against a strong New Zealand Hawks side in game 3. The ball went up and down the field all match with the improvement in both sides evident for all to see. The due on the surface made it difficult for both sides who worked very hard all night. Oceania eventually came out on top but this was a very even game the whole way, look out for both of these teams as the carnival progresses.

Summary : The AFL Oceania side proved too strong for the NZ Hawks today. The NZ side were fantastic and used the ball much better than the previous day. The improvement in both sides was very evident from the opening bounce. The NZ talls were taking there marks and the Oceania smalls were running everywhere. The game was fast, tough and very hard from the first bounce. Both sides showed tremendous improvement and certainly showed everyone at the ground today the serious potential and talent there is in the Pacific!

The tournament continues today with the Oceania side to take on the so far rampant undefeated Coca Cola PNG Binatangs at 4pm.
