happy new year to the crew at wfn keep up at great work...is there more south australians signed up in the sanfl than wafl...i know there performance over the last decade has been shocking(WAFL) but there is more wa players in the afl and since the shake up by wafc in 2001 there has been a constant flow of wa juniors into the afl...theres no way we could pass the vfl but with a bigger population and growing fast i thought it would be at least sanfl standard

There's no doubt that over the last 20 years Perth's population has raced past Adelaidtre's, and we're now seeing more young WA players than SA players drafted into the AFL.

However, the SANFL has traditionally been a bit stronger than the WAFL, and plenty of Victorians that don't make the AFL try their hand in the SANFL, which is part of what strengthens it.

The bottom line is that the SANFL, VFL and WAFL are all very similar, and the only real way we can argue one is better than the other is to look at matches between the leagues' representative teams - they play a series of 3 matches over a 2 year cycle. From memory the SANFL won its last 2 matches against the WAFL and VFL, and the VFL won destroyed the WAFL in Melbourne in 2007.
