There's a report on the AFL website on the AIS v Peel Thunder game. They gave the WAFL team a 52 point thumping despite being jet lagged and without there luggage (played with borrowed boots and chemist shop hot water moulded mouth guards at last minute). A. Shows the talent of the AIS team. B. Shows Sth Africa weren't all that bad at all. No doubt the Buffaloes would beat many mid to upper grade amateur league teams.

Unfortunately it is all hard to get a fix on, read some reports that the Peel side was mostly colts (U21 and some reserves) so still good footballers but perhaps not quite as strong as the club name might suggest.

Yes, I'd have to say plenty of doubts about how South Africa would go against top amateur sides from the top Australian footy states. The AIS side won by a very large margin and the Lions' goals came in the last quarter. I think a canny follower of such tours can read between the lines. It's going to take a few more years before South Africa push hard enough to be confident that the final margin reflects the difference between the teams.
