Liverpool Eagles almost ready to Fly

It's really good to see in this series of articles that all these clubs are working together. The natural progression of the old BARFL regional league was to steadily grow then narrow down to more manageable sized areas (sub-leagues) when there were enough "local" teams. And that was what ARUK set out to achieve - I guess to fast track new teams independently. But the whole experience was such that the two groups were "misaligned" and in some regions the net result was no league at all - it would've been easy for all the BARFL regional clubs to fold, and it could be argued that ARUK was only the loss of one key person away from not succeeding. So there was a danger of a very bad outcome.

Fortunately the game seems to have come out the other side of this period. There's now much closer to critical mass for the regional leagues to be self-sustaining and it's nice to see that most of the clubs across the organisations are supporting each other. What the final hierarchy will look like in 5 or 10 years is interesting - will it all sit comfortably under an AFL Britain banner or an ARUK banner? Impossible to know, but most importantly the clubs are getting on with the footy. It wouldn't be surprising to see Britain moving up the world rankings 2 or 3 spots in the next 5 years.
