Hi Guys, good discussions, but please consider this.
The Vic game next year will be played in WA not Vic.
The game was played on a very wet ground suiting SA' style of game. (there's been no rain in Perth for 3 months) If it was played at Subi on a drier ground the result would have been greater in WA's favour. WA had the no 1 ruckman and no 1 fullforward both ex Eagles players (Spandermann and Smith) both unavailable because of suspension and ex Eagles centreman Reid unavailable because of injuries, those guys dominate in the WAFL. SA has been the best for quite awhile now, especially after their 65 point flogging of the Vics last year in Victoria, but things are changing quickly. I went over to the SA huddle and was impressed with Hart, but his assistants lacked probably the experience of WA's assistant coaches, all ex AFL, Waterman, Woewodin and Macale, so Hart admission is only half the story and he could be also covering up for his assistants.
What about the prospects of the AFL recruiting (more than usual) mature aged players now that GC 17, etc is coming?

Gee, WA get back to back games in Perth. Should make it an interesting game then.

I guess we can make a long list of excuses on both sides. It was reported that most of the SA players hadn't played virtually any wet weather footy this season either - although we have had some rain in the last month (at last) so I guess it depends when it fell. But certainly I don't think there's any reason to think that there is a radical change in strength this year - it may well be a trend that means there will be a gradual crossover.

As to QLD going ahead of Victoria one day, I can't see the VFL falling behind. Assuming there are still many AFL clubs based in Victoria then their "reserves" players will always strengthen the VFL, and as long as the AFL admin etc is dominated by Victoria then Victoria will be looked after. The biggest issue that could see SA slide is population, whereas Victoria is much larger. So I reckon Victoria is pretty safe for at least the next few decades.
