The challenge is certainly there. Tromsö is around 2200 kms from the north pole. As a comparison, Hobart is a comfortable 5600 kms from the South Pole. It is truly Incredible that any presence of Australian can exist at these latitudes. Not even Rugby or American Football can be found here and even soccer football is somewhat limited.

Tromsø IL holds the title for most northerly professional soccer club in the world. Or at least the most northerly club in a premier league anywhere. Might be a pro team in a lower league further north somewhere, though I doubt it.

So after the title has been passed on to Helsinki, then Falun, the honour of being the world's most northerly footy club honours will likely remain theirs as long as they can stay in existence. There simply isn't anywhere else further north with more than a couple of thousand inhabitants. Maybe Hammerfest, just up the coast a bit...
