Also worth noting that one report has him playing only 7 games of Australian football as a teenager, whereas another said 18 games over 2 seasons. It has also been said that he will initially be on GC's rookie list so not affect their salary cap until/if he is elevated.

There's been probably 10 to 20 articles about him in the past 24 hrs, and that's without searching the Rugby League websites. Media meltdown. Likened to Buddy Franklin leaving Hawthorn to play in the NRL.

Amazing to think after the Rugby League season finishes they're letting him go play 6 months of Rugby UNION before commencing with GC.

I doubt we'll see any Australian footballers convert to rugby league - at least none of the established "stars" of a level comparable with Hunt. For starters, there isn't enough money in league, with average salaries well below those offered in the AFL. Guys like Whelan & Rooke in their late 20s, and their attractiveness to league clubs would be offset by the risks of a failed venture. And on top of that, there aren't many positions in league suited to Australian footballers - maybe full-back or wingers - three per club?

It's far more likely that if Hunt succeeds that AFL clubs will use the rookie loophole to poach the occasional young full-back from league, offering higher salaries and an abundance of positions across the oval that they could transition to.
