It's dissappointing to see Christchurch and Waikato only have 1 representative each in this team?
I understand that the strenght lies in Auckland, however this is a chance of a lifetime that these competitions are going to miss out in the longterm!
Rod, do you know how that has happened???

Hi Tinks
I know each region held their Hawks Cup competition and some regions had more students/schools compete than others. Therefore justifiably more players from a region are likely to be selected. It would also have depended on costs, attendance at training requirements etc etc.
You know I have strongly lobbied against the Auckland centric approach which has been there for 10+ years with NZAFL staff efforts but I actually feel that this will become something that was a "past issue", as with all the developments outlined and alluded to by AFLNZ, Aussie Rules has never been better placed to make advances throughout the country. That said, I strongly advocate that distance from camp training centres needs to be taken into account when attempting to select teams from different regions and some variation in requirements should always be made in the best interests of stakeholders and possible participants throughout NZ.
I am sure the Board, the regions and Rob are attempting to overcome these challenges.
