I think it's interesting that maybe FIFA saw the crowed numbers at the Sydney V. sorry I forgot, was only 4000 at Sydney and Gold Coast V Nth Qld. 1000 at G.C. I found the soccer push to be very anti Australian in that bugger all other codes, yet in USA this did not happen when it was played there. Wether RL.,Union, or Aussie. we all make jokes about each others game but still respect each other and the fact that we each like all games, where as soccer its only soccer.

Most other codes do show respect for each other and do tend to watch the other codes when played at the higher levels and we are used to seeing plenty of scoring and always a result and we will watch soccer for a while because of the skills displayed but in the end it becomes boring as so many games end in a draw and many of those no end with 0-0 as the score line and even at major tournaments(eg. World Cup) the game is decided by a penalty shoot out. 90+ mins of wonderful skills as Les Murray drools over the "beautiful game" and the the whole shebang is decided by one bloke whacking in a goal from a set shot whilst the goal keeper defends. Excitement gone done the gurgler. I reckon that's the reason the crowds at soccer in Aussie are so poor, even the migrants from the soccer world after a few years in Aussie or 1 generation and experiencing a result every week end up going with the other codes.

both footy fans and anti-AFL types like to bag the AFL now and then, but, gee, over a while now, I've taken more notice of the NRL, the FFA, the ICC, FIFA etc etc, and the AFL starts stacking up better and better by comparison.

The irony now is that can soccer types whinge and gripe about the AFL as 'arrogant' every again? or greedy?

The AFL ain't perfect, but, gee, they do a pretty good job. However, on that front, the ability for the AFL to now morph into an INTERNATIONAL governing body will be very interesting to follow. It's not easy - - just ask FIFA!!!!

(so, for any one thinking I'm taking a free kick at FIFA, yes and no - I acknowledge that the bigger you get, the hard it'll become).
