Could future AFL be 16-a-side?

It also seems that quite a few rule changes to the game were because of an attempt to alleviate a "perceived" problem that had crept into the game because of coaches changes in tactics etc. to try to overcome a shortage of quality players etc. Some worked for a time till another coach came up with another tactic. Or the Rules committee stepped in with a rule change or two. Which now set coaches off on a search to make those rules changes work for them and their team. which then created another "perceived" problem with the game which set the rules committee off on their search for a way to overcome that "problem"

The rules committee as it is set up now look as though they are obliged to make a change every year. (whether it will be an improvement or not) or to justify their existence!

The game has been played for over a hundred years just like 'the round ball game and the rugby codes but you don't see them making a rash of changes to the game every year like in Aussie Rules.

Let the game play as is for a couple of years and let coaches and players work out the best way to play the game as is, and then if a change is absolutely necessary then make it (trialling for a few weeks in the Nobody Actually Bothers comp hasn't really indicated if the rule is going to work over time in the League season anyway. The number of changes that have been made a couple of years later to overcome the "problem" the grew out of previous changes shows us that.
