I know its not strictly on subject but does relate to German Footy. I just read the announcement on the Berlin Crocodiles website regarding the approval and funding for them to build their own Oval and Clubroom/ChangeRoom/Gym etc. on the old Templehof airfield.

If it all does go ahead, is this a World First as far as 'owning' an oval etc. is concerned?

Any other clubs/Leagues outside Australia that 'own' their own ground and 'clubroom'???

Hi Cam,

I'm sorry to say mate that the story I posted on the Crocs website was an April fools joke.. Apologies for the ruse.. having said that, i often wonder what it would take to get a dedicated AFL field with proper facilities.. and which country will be first to have the vision to make this happen.

I did twigg that it was most probably a April Fool's joke but only after I had asked the question here and elsewhere. Pity that it wasn't fair dinkum.

Yes, it does beg the question, which international league will be the first to 'own' a dedicated ground/oval? I'm guessing but I suspect Nauru probably does already, if they do I reckon they are probably the only one outside Aussie.

If the number of players is the critical factor then USA and Great Britain would be leaders I guess. Denmark has been a very stable league for some time and is at present apearing to be undergoing a bit of a growth spurt but numbers still too low to afford such a move.

I guess a lease arrangement would be on the cards before actual ownership.

Makes ya ponder!
