This is not meant as a "wise in hindsight" criticism of anybody, but I am curious why the tournament has been staged in what is known as South Pacific cyclone season. It runs November to April. I wonder if it makes more sense to play it in the May to October window. There could be good reasons not to. Perhaps something we'll ask about once the current predicament has hopefully passed without too much further damage.

Brett, the best answer I can give is that we are in our cyclone season also in Cairns, but we look for every possible opportunity to play and attract others to come here. Often that has to be outside of the regular season due to travel commitments, clashes with regular schedules, sponsorship, players availability and a host of other reasons. When living in a cyclone area you live lif as normal and hope one doesn't come. It would be devastating to economies if all major events were to be cancelled for the November to April period. We need to be seen as a 12 month destination, and no doubt Fiji would think the same way.

Understandable sentiment. But I always take these things into account when booking my travel. The AFL presumably decide the scheduling based on various factors but player availability etc shouldn't be an issue unless perhaps there's a clash with local under age Rugby?
