Local footy in Baden-Württemberg - Ludwigsburg Taipans hoping for opponents

Howdy Brett.

At last count I've been able to determine that the German AFL has six full Clubs playing 14-a-side. Two clubs have formed a local 9's competition, the Munich Roos have a 3 team 9's feeder comp and the Berlin Crocodiles run a 4 team 9's feeder comp (North, South, East & West Berlin).

The Pirates and Wharfies play the Hamburg Dockers' intra-club comp. Not known if Frankfurt Redbacks, Rheinland Lions or Stuttgart Emus have their own 9's competitions.

However, it looks like the Lugwigsburg Taipans (new club started in 2012) might be trying to get a 9's league going in the Emus' part of the world. What that will do for footy in the area if the 4 team/Club Baden- Wurttemburg League can take off is huge. A regular competition with a club/team that the locals/(fans) can identify themselves with, and for the players a regular weekly game with the opportunity to play at the higher German league level as well. It seems also that the Taipans have ambitions to grow into a fully fledged club and play in the German League in the future.

And the Dresden Wolves have found themselves a regular competition as well in Prague (CAAFL). That will really give the Czech League a real boost as well.

If we count all these Teams/clubs there must be up around 300 or more players in Germany now, challenging Denmark & Sweden for numbers in Europe. Very promising with the 2nd European Championships being played later this year.

WOW!!!! Let's hope all these initiatives take off.

By the way, any indications yet, of whom have put their hands up to contest the Europe Championships?
