Thanks for the update Faramir. Disappointing to hear things have faded away somewhat. Italy seemed to come on quickly then drop away just as fast. Good luck for the future.---

Through The Looking Glass – AFL Italia Rebuilding For The Future

Thanks for the info, Faramir.
Does shed some more light on the Italian footy scene.

Looks and sounds a bit like the fact that, two separate leagues were set up in Italy may have inadvertently worked against the growth and development of footy in the country.

Some teams/league only able to play at 6-a-side separate and not connected to teams playing at 9 or more-a-side, where maybe 2 divisions playing under the one umbrella might have been a better option.

Germany has divided their competition into 2 divisions at times when some teams couldn't find enough players to field a team at the top level. (In 2009 I think it was) and they are doing it again in 2015 so that two new smaller teams can enter the national comp.
Quite novel plans for this year but could prove very successful in expanding the German AFL.
I think their aim is to get as many players as possible playing regular matches thru a whole season.

As I have said before playing regular(weekly or fortnightly) matches with at least 3 or 4 teams (not playing against same old faces each week) seems to be a very important step in the development and growth of footy and stability of leagues in other parts of the world. It helps keep the non-committed and curious interested, hopefully until they become part of the committed.
