Host Nations secure top 4 finish in EC2010

I really hope that there are some close matches in the next round. It seems to be that Finland, Croatia, Germany and Iceland are really struggling. I can underatnd this because they have only started Australian Football within the last 2-8 years unlike the rest of the competition and have limited players available but there is a bigger gap in skill level than I expected between them and the more established footy nations.

I thought maybe Croatia would go a little better given their strong form at the EU Cup in the past. Hard to judge without the European big 4 nations competing but they had seemed pretty solid. Obviously Germany are under-manned, but I wonder what they need to take the next step to challenge the top 4.

I wonder if this will put some nations off from going to IC2011. They may realise there is a bigger gap than they thought. Or it may renew their enthusiasm to build numbers and keeping working at full scale football.

It does demonstrate again the need for two divisions, at least, for IC2011. There's no shame in newer footy nations attending and battling it out for some kind of "futures" division two title.
